Library

The inviting elementary library is centrally located on the campus and features an extensive evolving collection of more than 15,000 items, including reference and information material as well as a great deal of recreational reading for all ages, abilities, and interests. In addition to books, the collection includes CDs, video- and audiotapes, and other multimedia items. From the library’s six computer workstations, from computers located throughout the campus, and from their homes, students can access the online catalogs of both the elementary and secondary libraries, several subscription databases containing full-text periodicals, government documents, transcriptions of broadcast material and reference works, and the Internet.

A librarian and an assistant librarian staff the library and are supported by parent and grandparent volunteers. The Wildwood Parent Organization Library Committee Chairpersons coordinate parent volunteers.

The library is an important part of student life at Wildwood. Primary-grade students make weekly class visits. During these visits, students borrow books and enjoy story programs, instruction in library use, and literature-related activities. For upper-grade students, a flexible, open schedule in the library and technology center ensures that the resources and teachers in both facilities are available whenever they are needed for support of class work. Working in collaboration with their classroom teachers, students conduct research by using the library and/or technology center resources. Assignments vary in content and focus as students acquire information skills, from choosing thoughtful topics and appropriate resources to expository writing and presentation. In addition to scheduled visits, all Wildwood students and their families are encouraged to use the library at any convenient time during the school day and before and after school.
