Multi-Age Primaries (K-2)

Wildwood honors and supports each child’s individual cognitive and social/emotional development by grouping our youngest students in multi-age classrooms known as "Pods." Each of our six Pod classes is composed of eight kindergartners, eight first graders, eight second graders, and two teachers. Students remain in the same nurturing and safe classroom environment for three years, allowing them to have diverse roles within the group over time.

Wildwood’s distinctive Pods are vibrant "families" of children whose interaction with each other and whose social and emotional growth are as critical as their academic work. The Pod experience is a rich mix of discovery, investigation, and instruction that includes reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, science, Spanish, library skills, visual and performing arts, and physical education. Challenges appropriate to each student are woven throughout the three-year program.

The goals of the Pod program are:

  • To develop independent learners and problem-solvers
  • To help children become socially and emotionally well grounded
  • To develop authors and lifelong readers
  • To develop scientists and mathematicians
