Intermediate Grades (3-5)

When children leave their multi-age Pod classes and enter third grade, they are prepared for the challenges of more complex reading, writing, research, and thinking and are developmentally ready to work in more similar ways as a group. Thus grades three through five are single-age classes. There are three classes per grade level, each with 18 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of 12 to 1. In addition to their core academic curriculum of language arts, social studies, mathematics, and Spanish, third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students rotate through specialist classes in performing arts, visual art, science, and library.
