Outreach
When Wildwood opened its middle and upper schools in 2000, our Board of Trustees had a parallel vision: to create a center devoted to supporting public and independent schools across the country in their efforts to create small, learner-centered schools.
That vision crystallized when the Wildwood Outreach Center was awarded a multi-year grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Today, the Center fulfills its public mission through a broad menu of onsite workshops, campus visits, publications, summer institutes, and mentorship opportunities.
Wildwood understands that educators in the public realm must juggle competing demands of state standards, testing, and classroom management while still trying to meet students' individual needs. Our outreach programs can help teachers and administrators find ways to build learning communities that emphasize personalized education. In addition, participants get the benefit of seeing theory put into action right at the Wildwood campus.
Wildwood School has been distinguished as a Coalition of Essential Schools Mentor School to new and converting small schools across the country. Besides professional development, our programs can help provide technical assistance to new schools as well as schools that are involved in restructuring.
