Working at Wildwood

Teaching is hard work. It’s also incredibly rewarding, especially in an environment where students are valued and are challenged to reflect on their work in ways that inevitably lead to growth. Wildwood teachers are lifelong learners themselves. They are encouraged to be thoughtful and innovative and are able to infuse their individual skills and passions, whether by making robotics, playing guitar, international politics, or mastering chemistry compounds, into Wildwood’s curricular framework.

Collaboration is a cornerstone of the Wildwood experience. Through participation on task forces, work groups, and committees, Wildwood’s faculty and staff have an opportunity to interact with and learn from a wide range of constituents. Teachers work together with division-specific and K-12 colleagues to create curriculum, design projects, enhance student learning, and think big about education.

We are all lifelong learners at Wildwood School, and professional development (PD) is prioritized. Faculty meetings occur each week with topics ranging from technology integration and mastery-based assessment strategies to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging topics and skill-building. Wildwood also hosts several PD days throughout each school year, including full weeks at the start and end of each year.

In addition, faculty and staff are able to research and attend external professional development opportunities that meet their varied interests and needs, such as the Harvard Think Tank on Global Education, The Heads Network Women in Leadership Conference, NAIS including their People of Color Conference (POCC), Visions, Inc., CAIS, Buck Institute, Gardner Carney Leadership Institute (GCLI), Courageous Conversation About Race®, and many more. Faculty who attend conferences and workshops are provided a forum to share their learning with colleagues.

Wildwood also offers its own program REAP (Research Exploration and Advancement Program), which generously funds opportunities for faculty to engage in self-directed summer study, domestic or abroad, related to Wildwood’s strategic priorities. REAP-funded programming has ranged from Global Citizenship and Technology Integration to the study of the Finnish education system and an examination of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland’s work around the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Wildwood was founded on the premise of equity and social justice, and has a longstanding and respected commitment to the values of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. Wildwood welcomes teachers and staff members who bring skills, qualities, and/or experiences that demonstrate an understanding of and ability to support our work surrounding multicultural education, global citizenship, and sustaining a diverse and inclusive school community.
