Global Citizenship

As a lab for the future of education, Wildwood is committed to cultivating generations of socially responsible students who understand that the world is a complex web of interdependencies.

In 2015, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced 17 Sustainable Development Goals that will pave the way for a better future for all people. These goals serve as the foundation for our school’s work in Global Citizenship, which is woven throughout our K-12 curriculum.

International Recognition

Wildwood School is recognized locally and globally for its progressive approach to teaching and learning. Through the Wildwood Outreach Center, educators and school leaders from around the world visit our campuses to observe our student-centered practices, diverse learning environments, and commitment to cultivating global-minded, ethical, and engaged learners.

Our work is frequently shared in international conferences, workshops, and publications focused on innovation in education, and Wildwood continues to serve as a model for how schools can prepare young people to thrive in an interconnected world.

Learning Experiences

Throughout their Wildwood journey, students have opportunities to engage in global learning experiences—from cultural exchanges and shares at elementary, to middle school’s Into the Wild capstone project and upper school International Community Involvement trips, deepening their understanding of global interconnectedness and offering an opportunity to engage thoughtfully and compassionately across cultures, identities, and perspectives.

Likewise, faculty have the opportunity to deepen their own studies through Wildwood’s Research Exploration and Advancement Program (REAP). Established in 2017 and funded through the Landis Green Innovation Fund, REAP enables Wildwood faculty to spend a summer diving deep into their areas of scholarship across the globe, with the goal of bringing their findings back to Wildwood. REAP-funded programming has ranged from Global Citizenship and Technology Integration to the study of the Finnish education system and an examination of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland’s work around the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Previous REAP experiences have also taken Wildwood faculty to Spain, Cuba, and Brazil.

Wildwood students, teachers, and families are part of a mutually supportive community that is committed to being ethical global citizens.
