ALUMNI NEWSLETTER: DECEMBER 2018

Greetings from Wildwood!

This newsletter makes me think about continuity. It's evident in the articles about developments in Wildwood's program that show how these innovations are deeply rooted in the school's foundational commitments to social justice, global citizenship, and hands-on, student-centered learning. I also see the continuity in community, and the ways Wildwood continues to forge a connection with our alumni. This fall, Landis had dinner with a group of alumni in Chicago one week and hosted cocktails at his home for parents of recent alumni the next.

I'm most excited to share that our alumni program continues to grow and gives alumni more ways to continue their connection with Wildwood. We hosted 5- and 10-year class reunions over Thanksgiving break and we're planning more trips like our recent visit with New York City alumni (see the story and pictures below.) On Jan. 9, we'll host our annual Alumni Visit Day and hope that you will return to campus! During your visit, you'll be able to reconnect with faculty and with each other and share your experiences and advice with the next generation of Wildwood alumni. If you'd be interested in hosting a future alumni event, I'd love to hear from you!

With warmest wishes for the holiday season,

Amy Abrams

Director of College Counseling and Alumni Relations

IN MEMORIAM

In Memory of Nicole Willett

Early in the school year, the Wildwood community learned of the tragic death of former faculty member Nicole Willett. Nicole taught Modern U.S. History and Human Rights (MUSH) at Wildwood from 2008 until 2013 and had a lasting and positive impact on her students. Tassie Hadlock-Piltz, who was her teaching partner, remembers: "Nicole's incredible depth of learning, her wide range of experiences, and the way she authentically interacted with students helped me be a better teacher and a better person. With a wry sense of humor, and a firm belief that we can make the world a better place, she motivated students to dig deeply into history and human rights and pushed them to question and grow. I am honored to have known her as a colleague and a friend." Click here for a photo of Nicole's last day at Wildwood with all of Senior Institute wearing plaid to honor her.
