Meet Jenn Spellman
Jenn Spellman has deep dived into every stage of a K-12 education. Starting out as an upper school English teacher, she then traveled through middle and elementary levels, only to return to her roots as the director of upper school at Wildwood.
"Working in every level gives me a strong overview of the developmental needs and aspects of all three," Jenn says. She loves the engagement that happens in upper school, as students come into their own points-of-view. "You're able to see every seed that's been planted early on really blossom."
Born in Queens, New York, Jenn earned her bachelor's degree in English Literature at Marist College in upstate New York and her master's degree in Secondary Education at The City University of New York. While on the East Coast, she began teaching and gained experience as a literacy coach and intervention specialist.
Moving west, she was Interim Middle School Principal and 7-12 Academic Support Coordinator at Milken Community Schools in Los Angeles. Prior to joining Wildwood, Jenn served as Director of Middle School and Director of Lower School at Westmark School.
Schools she admires, like Wildwood, have a student-centered philosophy, "where
their needs and interests drive the learning process." She's passionate about Wildwood’s strong sense of community and social justice. And she's excited about what's ahead—"especially getting to know the kids," she says. "They're what makes the school special."
