Wildwood students are encouraged to express themselves in various ways, to “try on” different hobbies, mindsets, and activities. Athletes can be methodical scientists, mathematicians can be outgoing performers, and anyone can be an exhibiting artist. In middle and upper school, students have the opportunity to participate in monthly gallery exhibitions where their work is on display for students, faculty, and visitors to enjoy.
Artists are mentored by visual arts teachers, but the exhibits are designed by the students, either for group shows or solo shows (for seniors). These rotating exhibits feature the work that students have created outside of class, and can include paintings, drawings, photos, sculptures, and more. At the evening opening reception, artists present their work to family, faculty, and friends. Elaborating on the artists’ statements that accompany their work, students share the creative process, challenges and struggles, and the lessons they learned as they worked on their final pieces.
