Upper School Science Teacher Tim Sekula has been a dedicated member of the Wildwood faculty for 18 years, bringing a passion for progressive education precisely aligned with our school’s mission. Originally from Hinckley, Ohio, Tim began his teaching career at Federal Hocking Local School District, where he worked under Dr. George Wood—one of the founding members of Wildwood’s middle and upper school programs. Inspired by Wildwood's innovative approach, Tim made the move to Los Angeles, drawn by the school's focus on project-based learning, block scheduling, and the importance of developing well-rounded students "with the skills, ethics and inspiration to transform their world."
Tim has a BS in Education and an MS in Geology, both from Ohio University. In 2023, he also completed an MA in Addiction Counseling: Integrated Recovery for Co-Occurring Disorders. Currently, Tim teaches Chemistry and Honors Chemistry, leads the Environmental Change and Policy Senior Seminar, and serves as an upper school advisor.
In addition to his teaching, Tim has been the Science Department Team Leader for the past 12 years, fostering collaboration and innovation within the department. Over the years, Tim has contributed to the school community in numerous other ways, including serving as a Critical Friends Group Coach and Facilitator, chairing the Habits of Mind and Heart Task Force, and participating in the Portrait of a Lifelong Learner Committee. He also previously served as both Senior Institute Coordinator and Advisory Coordinator, and was a member of the Compensation Task Force Committee.
"Life-long learners need more than just content, they require skill acquisition, repetition, and opportunities to demonstrate their mastery," Tim says. "The program at Wildwood allows for this to occur and allows for teacher freedom with the curriculum design process to ensure students are getting a solid balance between both content and skills. I cannot imagine teaching in a different environment."
