Sometimes Advisory activities look like a roundtable discussion, and sometimes they look a lot like a runway fashion show.
Adapting a favorite middle school Advisory activity, students were tasked with a two-day creative design challenge. Equipped with colorful butcher paper, markers, scissors, staples, and tape, small groups of students collaborated to design, create, and model unique paper fashions. Calling on the skills of collaboration and problem solving, students presented fashions they created along the theme of "workwear." Good-looking and practical fashions weren’t the only challenge, however. Students were charged with crafting ensembles that considered inclusivity, sustainability, and social responsibility. Models then strutted down the makeshift runway in the gallery space, showing off well-constructed and thoughtful designs for restaurant workers, construction workers, and more.
