At the elementary campus, classroom learning is supported by age-appropriate community involvement opportunities throughout the year, offering students a deeper understanding of issues in our community, as well as concrete actions to make an impact.
To enhance their learning around the Veteran’s Day holiday, elementary students organized a "warmth drive" for veterans. As they learned who veterans are and the issues that they face, students collected and sorted blankets, socks, hats, jackets, and slippers to donate to local veterans currently experiencing homelessness. Students were also encouraged to write letters and cards to thank them for their service. These items, designed to warm both body and heart, were then delivered to veterans at interim housing through PATH (People Assisting the Homeless). By connecting actions and information, students are able to see the larger picture of our place in the world.
