WISL Members Present at National Student Power Summit

WISL Members Present at National Student Power Summit

Members of Wildwood’s Institute for Social Leadership (WISL) traveled to the California Endowment Center in downtown Los Angeles to participate in the 2026 Student Power Summit, a national conference dedicated to student agency and youth-driven learning. Hosted by Learning InspirED in partnership with Homeboy Industries, the two-day event brought together students, educators, and school leaders from across the country to explore how giving young people a greater voice in their education can transform classrooms and communities.

Alongside WISL Director Dr. Liza Bearman, seven WISL members represented Wildwood not only as participants, but as presenters. The group led a conference session titled "Rewriting School: From Compliance to Co-Creation," sharing examples of how student-led initiatives such as the Institutes at Wildwood are helping to reshape the learning experience. Their presentation highlighted the power of shifting from a model in which students simply follow directions to one in which they help design, question, and improve the systems around them.
